DT at Headlands

At Headlands, we develop children’s awareness of the design cycle and learn about how to bring their own design to life. 

Design Cycle:

Research    –    Design Criteria    –    Design    –    Make (with continuous evaluation)

Our school approach uses the foundation of the DT Association ‘projects on a page’ which we utilise to create clear and progressive plans for our children. Children explore a specific market and develop design criteria at the onset of a project. Following this children build their technical knowledge of structure, mechanical products, textiles and electrical systems. Programming is covered in detail through computing. We give the children the opportunity to sell their product to their family at the end of the unit to create a sense of enterprise at our annual ‘Global Market’.
