Headlands School Library

All children in school have the opportunity to visit the school library as a class each week. While children are accessing their phonics or fluency books, they select a ‘sharing book’ of their choice from the appropriate area of the library. Books are zoned by colour based on the children’s position in school so that themes and texts are relevant to them. After moving on from fluency, children are ‘free readers’ and may select a book of their own choice from the library. Teachers will guide them in this to ensure their reading inspires and challenges them to become life long readers.

Our library was co-curated by our English and Curriculum leads Mrs Ross and Mr O’Dwyer and sourced from a local independent bookshop. We have ensured that books selected aligned with the school vision and curriculum. There are hundreds of high-quality books ranging from picture books, early readers, poetry books, sports books, the arts, empowering texts and of course hundreds of high-quality novels!

Children have their own user accounts and can scan their book out of the library. We love reading at Headlands!
