After School Clubs
At Headlands, we offer a variety of after school clubs run by our wonderful team of dedicated teachers and support staff. Teachers send letters out for applicants when their club is due to begin each year and will run for a specified number of weeks. In the past we have had a wide variety of clubs including arts and crafts, drama, board games, and languages just to name a few!
School choir
Miss Bottrill leads our school choir. Children can apply to join the choir towards the end of year 3 and join choir practise weekly there after. Our school choir perform at our end of half term awards ceremony, in church services and as a part of the Spenborough Trust Christmas Concert each year at Dewsbury Town Hall! We are very proud of our choir!
Headlands Football Team
Mr Rowson and Mrs Lord co-manage our school football teams. We have distinct boys and girls teams and children from Year 5 and 6 make up most of our players (though we have had some children join as young as year 4!) Mr Rowson is a great coach and centres our team around our core values in school. We regularly play against local teams from other schools.
Spaces in our after school clubs fill up quickly and though we cater for as many children as possible, spaces are limited to keep things manageable – so get your applications in quickly!

School Trips
Each year, we aim to take children on at least one school trip. Some examples of school trips at Headlands have included; The National Coal Mining Museum, Eureka, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Murton Park (history days), Abbey House Museum.
All our educational visits are linked to children’s learning while offering enrichment. School trips are an important aspect of school and we ask for voluntary contributions from parents to ensure that they can take place. If your child is entitled to Free School Dinners, a packed lunch can be made available upon request. We offer a set allocation of our pupil premium funding to support pupil premium children in accessing school trips (£30 per year, per child, any additional costs need covering by parents).
In addition, we currently offer one residential experience in Year 6. We have taken children on a range of experiences over the years including Robinwood outdoor adventurous activities, London residential adventure and other alternatives. We base our decision on the location and activities around the needs of the cohort very carefully.
Teachers will communicate with parents as to where and when trips will take place.
