House Points

Our School Houses

At Headlands, our children in houses named after the creatures of our thriving woodland. Each week, Foxes, Hedgehogs, Squirrels and Badgers compete to earn the most house points.

House points can be earned in all manner of ways, whether it is for good focus, following our school rules, going over and above, displaying good manners or living out our school Christian Values, house points are gained throughout the week. The points are recorded and each week the winning team is announced. Winning houses are displayed on the house display in the school hall. At the end of each half term, the house with the most points overall is announced and a reward is earned for every child in that house! This brings both a feeling of teamwork, individual reward and a sense of achievement for our pupils.

Houses are also used each year on Sports day, where houses compete in friendly competitions such as the flat race and the sack race! We also have quizzes and special events in school where houses are used for grouping.

Other Rewards

There are weekly individual certificates for children that have shown special effort in one of the following categories: Christian Values, Maths Master and Writer of the Week. We also have everyone’s favourite – The Benji Award, which is a special party with our school dog for general achievement.

At the end of each half term, we celebrate one child from each class that has shown excellence in school and they are awarded our Christian Community Achievement Award. The CCAA is a special event, and parents/carers are invited in to celebrate with their child. Children are only eligible to win this award once in EYFS/KS1 and once in KS2 and the children look forward with anticipation to finding out who the winner is!

In Year 6, our leavers experience a special presentation where children who embody each of our Christian Values of perseverance, kindness, joy, respect, self-control and forgiveness are awarded a trophy. In addition, we honour one pupil each year in Year 6 who has displayed courage, determination and resilience with the Mr Bailey award.

There are various other class rewards and celebrations in school that the children experience on a day to day basis to help them feel empowered, successful and motivated in their learning and life!
